YOU ARE INVITED TO ATTEND A MOVIE SCREENING:

TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD

The Southern Food and Beverage Museum and the New Orleans Public Library will present a classic of the silver screen: To Kill A Mockingbird, starring Gregory Peck and Mary Badham as Scout – plus Robert Duvall in his first movie role ever as Boo Radley. The screen adaptation of Harper Lee’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel won the Academy Award for Best Picture, Best Actor, and others. This screening benefits STAIR, Start the Adventure in Reading.

TIME:	5:30 p.m.; movie will begin at 5:45 

DATE:	Wednesday, October 1, 2008 

PLACE:	Auditorium, New Orleans Museum of Art

COST:	Suggested donation of $3 which will cover costs.

PURPOSE:	Distribution of lesson plans, DVDs and other materials about To Kill A Mockingbird and The Great Gatsby. 

HOSTS:	The New Orleans Public Library and the Southern Food and Beverage Museum, and the New Orleans Museum of Art.

GUESTS:	High school English, history, social studies, art and drama teachers; sponsors of culinary clubs; librarians and STAIR tutors.

PARKING:	Available at no charge all around the museum.

Start the Adventure in Reading is a local non-profit program that uses community volunteers to teach public school elementary students how to read.  For information on how to become a STAIR tutor, visit www.stairnola.org or call 899-0820.

This event is sponsored partly by a grant from The Big Read. The Big Read is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts. It is designed to restore reading to the center of American culture. The NEA presents The Big Read in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and in cooperation with Arts Midwest.
