we're back with even more information and resources than before! Please continue

As residents return to areas affected by Hurricane Gustav, reports of deplorable
conditions both in shelters and also in areas where people are returning to have
begun to arise. Please see the following links to find out more:

>From the Pointe-au-Chien Indian Tribe: The Pointe-au-Chien Indian Tribe, comprised
of approximately 700 people, is located in lower Terrebonne and Lafourche Parishes.
Our community is unprotected by a levee. Most homes in the Indian community have
some sort of damage ranging from minor damage to total destruction, and our tribal
building has been destroyed. Tribal land is owned collectively by tribal families,
and tribal leaders are concerned that many elders and families may decide to leave
the community because of the problems with rebuilding. Other tribal members living
in the surrounding communities are also impacted. Our Community needs help in rebuilding
and recovery efforts, as well as maintenance supplies for those who are currently
in their homes and others who will be returning shortly. There is currently no water
or electricity in our Community, and thick mud everywhere, hindering the rebuilding
and recovery process. Items of need identified by Pointe-au-Chien tribal leaders
include: chainsaws, baby wipes, gloves, generators, window units, building supplies,
roofing materials, water for cleaning and drinking, tarps, hygiene products, diapers,
baby formula, nonperishable food items, tools, first aid supplies, shovels, and
rakes. Donations can be made to the Pointe-au-Chien Indian Tribe, PO Box 416, Montegut,
LA 70377. The Louisiana Environmental Action Network is also assisting the Tribe,
and donations can be made to LEAN by visiting its website here [http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001-L6t1uUYychLu5DMvXPKN0xgXohLsquNJAAYVY6qYEkvM9u_ThFBhQoFrbdbSGNT6Scb_Y-i3-4QavMtXfrhZmOO-4vu8O2H1rcjfT96ACXin9QOYIjDeniZGHsyflGJyG2WIxeJ-k2evYHQbHSfUA==].
Donations to either Pointe-au-Chien or LEAN are tax deductible.
